Eden State Gardens, which was once the home of the William
Henry Wesley family, is now a place of tranquility and
contemplation. Yet, nearly 100 years ago, a visit to Eden State
Gardens would have vibrated with the whir of mechanical and
human energy.

Salt spray and wind pruning, two of nature's landscaping tools, are seen
everywhere. What sometimes appears to be "bushes" in the dunes are often
full-size slash pines and southern magnolia trees with only their tops
protruding from the drifting sand. Also found within the park boundaries are
pine flatwoods and scrub. Scenic Western Lake is ringed by extensive salt
marsh.
Directions: I-10, Exit 14. S. on Hwy. 331, L. on Hwy.98. 1 mi. to C.R. 283 and
turn R. Proceed 3 mi. to 4-way stop. L. on C.R. 30A and go 1.5 mi. Entrance
to park is on R.

Point Washington State Forest

This forest is located in the panhandle on a strip of land between the Gulf of
Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay. The forest is accessible through existing roads
that provide hiking and mountain bike riding.
Directions: Located on C.R. 395, 1 mi. S. of U.S. 98.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

Topsail Hill Preserve is named after Topsail Hill, a high, picturesque dune standing
25 feet above sea level. The preserve is home to one of the last two remaining
natural populations of the endangered Choctawhatchee Beach Mouse. The park
has 14 natural wild plant communities from beach dunes to pine flatwoods.
Coastal dune lakes, wet prairies, and maritime hammocks are rare and unique
communities found in this park.
Directions: I-10, Exit 14 follow U.S. Hwy. 331 S. 27 mi. to U.S. Hwy. 98. Turn right
approx. 5 mi. W. to Scenic Hwy. 30A. Turn left, ¼ mi. Entrance on the
right.
